Your Money or Your Life

Sometimes, the books that contain very important information are not always the latest best-sellers. Recently, I learned about a personal finance book called “Your Money or Your Life” that has been around for quite some time. The book is still regarded as a very important piece of personal finance literature, so I decided to find out why. “Your Money or Your Life” is based upon the life experiences of its two authors, Vicki Robin and Joe Dominguez. The book contains a nine-step approach that is designed to help readers achieve financial independence. The nine steps to financial independence involve a … Continue reading

Top Ten Money Wasters

Today I was perusing my news alerts and came across a list of money wasters that CNN put out. I understand wasting money. I have children. There is so much waste going on in this house. It’s not intentional, but you can’t force small children to use and finish. Daily internet deals I subscribe to so many different social coupon sites. I’ve used it only once and my sister is really the one who bought the deal. We bought salon services for her next trip to Texas. Eating out I’ll concede that this is a big money bite. OFN is a network on Community Development Financial Institutions that are dedicated to offering reasonable lending to low-income or otherwise disadvantaged people and communities. In the past few years, Starbucks has … Continue reading

A Slow, Steady Drip

I’ve recently seen a television commercial that shows people throwing away food as soon as they’ve purchased it, rationalizing that they’re just going to throw it away later, so they might as well take care of that now. The commercial then goes on to state that we throw away around $500.00 of food every year because of spoilage. That really rang true for me—I clean out my fridge weekly, and tend to find all kinds of little things in there that shouldn’t be consumed by human mouths. I would estimate that yes, I do throw away about that much food. … Continue reading

It’s Time to Make Like Nike

Do you devour every piece of personal finance information that you can get your hands on in hopes of finding the magic key that will suddenly turn your financial life around? If so, the best thing that you can do right now is to stop acquiring new information and put what you already know into action. I am guilty of doing this very thing, so I am not bringing up the topic to point fingers at anyone except myself. If you stop and think about it, this very principle is true no matter what it is that you are trying … Continue reading
