PayPal and Your Business

For many PayPal is a love/hate relationship. PayPal is like the popular girl in school that no likes but everyone fights to sit next to in the cafeteria. Most of us have a PayPal account and most ecommerce sites are now accepting PayPal. Yet, we have all heard the rumors, complaints, and horror stories of those who use PayPal. Many swear it off and refuse to ever do business with PayPal again. From the high fees to their policy of siding with the consumer even at the expense of the seller PayPal has gained some enemies. Seller’s burned by con … Continue reading

Back-to-School Debit Cards

Back-to-school is infiltrating every aspect of my finances, from my wallet to my bank statements. My latest statement included a brochure on debit cards for college co-eds. Apparently, my bank offers a special card program designed specifically for students who are leaving the nest this fall. In the case of my bank, parents must open and maintain the accounts, though their college-bound students can access the funds via a bank-issued Visa or MasterCard debit card. Moms and dads can then track their kid’s spending throughout the academic year. Bank cards are just one of dozens of options parents have if … Continue reading

Avoid Prepaid Debit Card Fraud

Reloadable debit cards like the Green Dot MoneyPak can be a convenient way to pay bills or fund your PayPal account. Unfortunately, criminal minds have been hard at work lately creating a variety of scams whereby they obtain MoneyPak card numbers and then use whatever balance is left on the card. If you have a MoneyPak card or other prepaid debit card, protect yourself from fraud with the following tips. Many of the current scams involving MoneyPak cards closely resemble scams that have been around for some time, where wire transfers of funds are requested. Since smart consumers have caught … Continue reading

The PayPal Debit Card

Many of us are familiar with PayPal. It’s a website that facilitates sending money through the Internet in a safe way. Many online stores use it, as do private merchants. It’s also a handy way to send birthday money or wedding gifts. I’ve been a member of PayPal for a number of years, and appreciate its service. I have to admit, though, that I only just recently got the debit card you can get in conjunction with your account. And I love it. When someone sends you money through PayPal, it can take a little while to transfer those funds … Continue reading

Person-To-Person Payments With Visa

I love going out to eat. There’s nothing to prepare. There’s no risk of injury to self during preparation. Then there’s nothing to clean up afterward. Eating out is wonderful. Before my husband and I moved to Texas, my mom and I would meet often for lunch. We’d meet somewhere about halfway between us and make a day of it. I miss those lunches, but I’m sure I’ve saved a lot of money staying home. When mom and I would go out to lunch we’d each present a debit card when the check arrived. We never met a server who … Continue reading

Is The American Dream Dead?

According to financial expert Suze Orman, the American dream, as we’ve always known it, is dead. Hasn’t it been our goal to keep up with the Joneses, to look and feel successful, to have a nice home, three nice cars, a boat, to take family vacations, and a cute little dog? Well, Suze didn’t say anything about a dog, to my knowledge, but she definitely feels that we need to refine our ideas of just what the American dream means. She has just released a new book titled “The Money Class,” and states: “The whole purpose of this book is … Continue reading

Ordering Checks Online

Have you ever wondered where your friends get their cute checks, and why you’re stuck with the boring, ho-hum designs your bank offers? Chances are, your friends are ordering their checks online, and are able to choose from hundreds of cute patterns. I’ve been ordering my checks online for years, and love it. First, do a little research into the company you’d like to use. My two favorites are Checks in the Mail and Current. Both these companies offer safe online ordering and they have really reasonable prices, both for checks and for shipping, and you can get personal checks, … Continue reading

Online Teen Bank Accounts Allow Parental Monitoring

Paypal has recently announced teen accounts which allows parents to open accounts for their teens. As it is a sub account of the parent, the teen account allows the parent control and oversight of the account. Parents can receive alerts, and grant permission for different functions of the students account. The account allows the parent to get money to the student’s account instantly (an eliminates the need for expensive services such as Western Union)that is often used when kids are in college and are in need of money quickly. Kids are issued Teen cards that allow them the convenience of … Continue reading
