Budgeting Software Options

When it comes to money management and computer software two programs quickly come to mind: Microsoft Money and Quicken. While these programs are good, I have used both of them, I still find that there are things that I wish I could change about the programs. If you feel this way it may mean that it is time to start thinking outside of the computer budget box.

One option that you can do is create your own zero dollar budget online using Excel. If you do this you should have a basic understanding of spreadsheets and what you can accomplish with them. This is a great way to do your budget, because you are completely in control and can easily make changes and adjustments throughout the month.

If you use the envelope system with your budgeting, you may want to consider using software that incorporates that system into the program. Budget by Snowmint Creative Solutions, LLC is a program that does just that. It is available for both PC and Macs. Another system that you can do online is mvelopes. This allows you to pay your bills and track your expenses online.

If you do an Internet search you will be surprised at all the different types of budgeting software that is available. Many of these programs offer free trials. Although there is an initial amount of time involved as you try out each system, it may be worth it to find the correct match for you and your budget. A good program would also help you to plan for the future when it comes to retirement and college savings. The perfect match may be as simple as a pen and a piece of paper, or you may find something that does the math for you.

Once you find a system that you are comfortable using, stick with it. This will help to decrease the stress that you feel when it comes to money management. It can also help you to match your priorities with your spending. It is important to find the right tools for you.
